Xiaomi 17, Pro And Pro Max Launch With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 And Rear Display

Xiaomi has officially introduced its new flagship smartphones, the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, in China. These devices mark the debut of Qualcomm’s latest high-end processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, just hours after its official announcement. Beyond raw performance, Xiaomi surprised consumers with the integration of a secondary display on the rear, reviving a concept first attempted with the Xiaomi 11 Ultra, but this time with expanded functionality.

The more affordable model, Xiaomi 17, includes the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a 6.3-inch OLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate and 3,500 nits brightness but drops the secondary screen and adopts an IP68 rating instead of IP69. It offers up to 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage, also expandable via microSD. Its triple 50 MP rear cameras are simplified, with a telephoto lens offering 2.6x optical zoom. It carries a large 7,000 mAh battery, with 100W fast charging and 50W wireless support.

Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max

The Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max stand out as the most advanced devices. Both feature flat front and back panels, aluminum and glass construction, and IP69 certification for resistance against dust and high-pressure hot water jets. Their camera modules resemble the rectangular “Plateau” design seen on iPhones but incorporate a secondary OLED display.

This additional screen matches the specifications of the main display, offering 120 Hz refresh rate, 3,500 nits brightness, and support for widgets, notifications, selfies using the rear cameras, and even gaming with an optional accessory case sold separately. This approach builds on the earlier Mi 11 Ultra concept but enhances practicality with a larger display.

At the core of the Pro models is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset, combined with up to 16 GB RAM and 1 TB storage, expandable via microSD. The primary displays use OLED panels with Dolby Vision, HDR, and redesigned pixel structures for improved definition. The Pro features a 6.3-inch screen, while the Pro Max increases this to 6.9 inches.

The camera systems are built around a 50 MP selfie lens and a triple rear setup. The highlight is the Light Hunter 950L main sensor with OIS and LOFIC technology to enhance light capture and HDR performance. Completing the system are a 50 MP ultrawide lens and a 50 MP telephoto with OIS and 5x optical zoom.

Battery technology has also been upgraded, with higher silicon density boosting capacities to 6,300 mAh for the Pro and 7,500 mAh for the Pro Max. Both support 100W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging. Other features include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, IR blaster, under-display fingerprint reader, and Android 16 with HyperOS 3.
