ChatGPT Pulse Debuts As OpenAI’s Proactive AI Assistant For Daily Summaries

OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Pulse, a new feature designed to shift the chatbot experience from reactive to proactive. Instead of waiting for user prompts, Pulse anticipates daily needs and delivers personalized summaries directly to mobile devices. This marks a significant change in how users interact with AI assistants, aiming to provide practical support integrated into daily routines.

Unlike calendar reminders, Pulse creates notifications based on user habits, interests, and planned activities. For example, a morning notification might include a daily overview, tailored news, upcoming tasks, or travel recommendations. The information is presented in visual cards, each containing concise details that can be quickly scanned or explored further. The system analyzes conversations and preferences overnight, generating five to ten cards that appear in the ChatGPT mobile app the following day.

Currently, Pulse is available exclusively to Pro subscribers, who pay $200 per month. Cards disappear at the end of the day unless saved, and users can provide feedback, request specific themes, or dismiss irrelevant suggestions. Integration with external apps, such as Google Calendar and Gmail, expands Pulse’s capabilities by enabling features like meeting schedules, birthday reminders, or restaurant recommendations at travel destinations. This proactive approach aims to learn user routines and offer timely assistance without requiring explicit prompts.

Practical examples highlight its range: from cooking suggestions and workout plans to travel routes users had not previously considered. However, this convenience raises privacy and security concerns. Experts caution that the more personal data is integrated, the higher the potential risks. OpenAI emphasizes that all Pulse content undergoes safety checks and that users maintain control—Pulse can be disabled anytime under Settings > Personalization by turning off memory-based suggestions.

Strategically, Pulse reflects OpenAI’s goal to evolve ChatGPT into an always-on digital companion, not just a question-and-answer tool. The company also positions it as a potential alternative to traditional news feeds, offering AI-driven morning briefings designed to deliver value quickly, without the distraction of endless scrolling.

For now, Pulse is in preview mode for Pro subscribers, with plans to extend availability to the Plus tier ($20/month) later in the year. By organizing schedules, suggesting relevant content, and anticipating user needs, Pulse represents OpenAI’s vision of a truly proactive assistant—one that functions as a personal digital manager, always ready to provide support.
