Atari and PLAION REPLAI have unveiled the Atari 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition, a special version of the classic console celebrating one of the most recognizable characters in gaming history. This new edition merges the nostalgic appeal of the original Atari 2600 with modern technology, offering fans both a collector’s item and a functional gaming device compatible with contemporary systems.
The Atari 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition retains the original console’s vintage design while adding distinctive visual elements inspired by the legendary yellow character. The console features a bright yellow finish and illuminated front icons, giving it a refreshed yet familiar look. It comes with a wireless CX-40+ joystick redesigned in matching yellow, maintaining full compatibility with the new system.
For collectors and fans of the PAC-MAN franchise, PLAION has also released additional themed controllers sold separately. These come in four colors — red (Blinky), pink (Pinky), blue (Inky), and orange (Clyde) — representing the famous ghosts from the series. Each controller mirrors the retro style of the original while incorporating wireless technology for modern usability.
According to Ben Jones, Commercial Director at PLAION REPLAI, the launch “celebrates two of the most enduring brands in entertainment, bringing together nostalgia and innovation in a product of historical significance.” Wade Rosen, CEO of Atari, added that the edition “recalls the simple fun that defined generations of players.”
The Atari 2600+ PAC-MAN Edition is now available globally for £129.99 (about $150), while the themed joysticks are priced at £29.99 (about $35) each. Sales are being handled by major international retailers and through Atari’s official website.
Beyond its nostalgic design, the new console integrates modern features such as HDMI output, USB-C power supply, and display options for 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, ensuring smooth compatibility with today’s televisions. Each unit also includes the PAC-MAN Double Feature cartridge, containing two games:
- PAC-MAN 2600, the iconic home version that helped define gaming in the early 1980s.
- PAC-MAN 7800, a more advanced remake inspired by the original arcade experience.
Atari, one of the most influential names in video game history, has been making a strong return in recent years by acquiring new studios and reviving classic franchises. The PAC-MAN Edition of the Atari 2600+ reflects this renewed focus — blending the charm of retro gaming with contemporary hardware and design for both longtime fans and new audiences.
