Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Film’s Part 1 Surpasses Titanic To Become Japan’s 3rd Highest-Grossing Film


Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle: Part 1 Akaza’s Return has officially overtaken James Cameron’s Titanic at the Japanese box office, becoming the third highest-grossing film of all time in the country.

The movie, released on July 18, has earned 28.08 billion yen in just 38 days, drawing 19.82 million moviegoers.

The record-breaking run pushes Titanic (27.77 billion yen) down to fourth place. Now, Demon Slayer holds two spots in Japan’s top three. Mugen Train remains the country’s all-time box office leader with 40.75 billion yen, while Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away ranks second with 31.68 billion yen.

The film has shattered multiple records since its opening. It broke the record for highest opening weekend revenue, highest opening day revenue, and highest single-day revenue. It earned 7.3 billion yen in its first four days.

Within just eight days, it became the fastest movie in Japanese history to pass the 10 billion yen mark, two days faster than the previous record set by Mugen Train. By its tenth day in theaters, Infinity Castle had grossed 12.8 billion yen from more than 9.1 million admissions.

After just 25 days, its earnings of 22.07 billion yen (approx. 150.4 million USD) moved it past the 20.34 billion yen total of One Piece Film: Red (2022) to claim the sixth position at the time.

The film went on to overtake Makoto Shinkai’s your name. by its thirty-first day.

Ahead of its North American release on Sep 12, Crunchyroll will be hosting an early screening of the film in the United States on Sep 9 exclusively to Crunchyroll Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan subscribers.
