At Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary event, the studio released a teaser trailer for its upcoming adult animation project, working title: DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO. The animation feature is set in the universe of Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed Death Stranding game and promises an original story crafted specifically for the animated format.
Hiroshi Miyamoto (Eiga Precure Dream Stars!, Hugtto! Precure Futari wa Precure All Stars Memories) is directing the project at ABC ANIMATION STUDIO, while Aaron Guzikowski (Raised by Wolves) is writing the script. Kojima Productions and Line Mileage are producing the animation.
Kojima’s Vision and Project Development
In a May interview with Vogue Japan, Hideo Kojima confirmed that a Death Stranding animation was in development, expanding the franchise into a new storytelling medium. The animation film will explore the unique post-apocalyptic world and lore introduced in the original game while presenting a new narrative separate from the mainline titles.
Separate Live-Action Film Adaptation
The Death Stranding universe is also inspiring a separate live-action film at Hammerstone Studios (Barbarian, Bill and Ted Face the Music). Michael Sarnoski (Pig, A Quiet Place: Day One) is set to write and direct, with Lars Knudsen and Ari Aster’s Square Peg production company producing. This project indicates Kojima Productions’ ambition to expand the IP across multiple media formats.
