If you’ve been wondering how to find your personal style, you’re not alone.
Maybe you’ve tried the Pinterest boards, followed fashion influencers, or done the occasional “treat yourself” shopping spree… only to find that six months later, half those pieces are hanging unworn in your wardrobe.
It’s not that you have bad taste. It’s not that you aren’t good at shopping.
It’s because most of us weren’t taught the styling basics as young women, navigating our changing bodies and identities – and we end up winging it. And without a clear framework, finding your style can take years — and feel like an expensive guessing game.
If you’re ready to break free from wardrobe overwhelm, shopping fatigue and the never-ending guessing game of what to wear and kick the self-doubt to the kerb. This article is for you.
I’ll share how you can speed up the process, avoid the “nothing to wear” spiral, and create a wardrobe that truly feels like you.
Why “Figuring It Out Yourself” Slows You Down
Trial and error often feels flexible—but it comes with a hidden cost. A Marks & Spencer study in 2016 found that the average woman spends 17 minutes each morning picking an outfit, adding up to six months over a lifetime! Now imagine what else you could do with that time if your wardrobe felt easy and confident.
Trial and error feels safe and flexible:
- You try things when you feel like it.
- You experiment with trends as they come along.
- You buy something that a friend or family member says looks nice.
And for a while, that can work… until you notice:
- Your wardrobe is full, but you’re wearing the same 4 outfits.
- Shopping feels more like a gamble than a joy.
- You second-guess your outfits before big moments.
In my work with ambitious women in the middle of career or life transitions, I’ve seen how fast transformation can happen when you have a proven framework. My clients consistently cut their ‘getting ready’ time in half and stop wasting money on unworn clothes — because they finally have a wardrobe that works.
Style Mistakes Women Make
Nothing changes if you go back to repeating the same patterns. Unlearning past behaviours isn’t a small task; a lifetime of beliefs about who we are and how we feel about our bodies cannot be overridden overnight by reading a blog or watching a YouTube clip. This is why working with a style coach is more than just finding new clothes…
Trial and error can teach you a lot — but it’s also the slowest, most expensive way to find your style. The internet and AI are not exclusive; it’s not personalised to you, so at best, the results you’ll get are generic.
Another mistake I see is women cherry-picking parts of the broader styling framework. For example, many women believe that a body shape and colour analysis session will give them total clarity on their style. Unfortunately, for someone who hasn’t got clarity on who they are or their style identity, they won’t have the confidence to shop and curate outfits.
Colour analysis is what we would be classified as a piece of the puzzle, but not the full picture, the same about body shape – to create a style you LOVE – you need to strategy and a proven framework for long-lasting results.
The women I work with are fed up with outsourcing their self-esteem and asking others to validate them.
Liberating yourself from past stories, doubts, your own worst inner critic, and the expectations (and style choices of others) is truly empowering and one of the best ways to kickstart your confidence boost ahead of a new chapter in life.

The Hidden Costs of DIY Style Mistakes
When you don’t have a clear style direction, you pay in three ways:
1. Money wasted on “almost right” pieces
Those jeans that fit okay but never get worn? The blazer you love on the hanger but not on you? It adds up — fast. Dissatisfaction on a hanger can lead to a dissatisfaction version of you – and that’s the silent energy you carry with you all day.
2. Time lost every morning
When your wardrobe lacks cohesion, getting dressed feels like solving a puzzle. It’s stressful, and secondly, doubting your every outfit doesn’t set you off to a confident start to your day
3. Missed opportunities
Clothes aren’t everything, but they’re part of the first impression you make. If your style doesn’t match your goals, it can quietly hold you back.
The Style Discovery and Mood board session gave me so much clarity on my style. My confidence in how to dress was a 4 now it’s a 10!
After the Wardrobe Edit and Styling, it felt like Stacey Solomon had come into my house and sorted out my wardrobe! I discovered I had so many clothes that I never wore because they didn’t suit me and made me look drab. Roberta gave me a totally new perspective.
I can’t wait to start the Style SOS support next.
Thank you so much, Roberta!

What Having a Personal Style Framework Unlocks
When you have a strategy:
- Shopping becomes faster and easier.
- Every outfit feels aligned with who you are now.
- You save time, energy, and money — and look more confident without trying harder.
Why It’s Worth Investing Over Staying in Trial & Error
You can figure out your style alone — but think about the years you’ll spend experimenting, the clothes you’ll buy and never wear, and the moments you’ll miss showing up fully as yourself.
When you invest in expert guidance, you:
- Shorten the learning curve from years to weeks.
- Avoid costly mistakes.
- Gain confidence that every choice supports your goals.
