It’s basically a marriage proposal.
GaCen Shoujo to Ibunka Kouryuu (Cultural Exchange With a Game Center Girl) is not something I would have normally watched, mostly because of my disinterest in video games. However, I would be interested in hearing SoCal-native Sally Amaki voice Lily Baker, an English girl who moves to Japan, with an impenetrably thick British accent, especially if it sounds fake as Hell. Unfortunately, while she does affect an English accent, it’s pretty light, and it seems she’s being directed to voice her lines in that “anime English” way that seems to rely on unnatural stresses to (I presume) make it more intelligible to Japanese viewers who understand at least some English. (Her accent does sound fake to me, though.)
I’m not sure why a chase scene was necessary first.
So, yes, I dropped Game Center Girl after one episode because Sally Amaki founded “fine” instead of dog shit terrible. (C’mon, an exaggerated Scouse accent that no one could understand would have been funny.) As for the show itself, eh, it’s not really my thing. I’m not familiar with the original manga, but the first episode sets up a romance between a couple of teenagers. (According to this source, Lily is 13 and Renji, the game center employee whose overture she mistakes as being romantically motivated, is 18.) Thankfully, the initial misunderstanding from the beginning of the episode gets cleared up by the end through the magic of communication. Dragging that out all season would have been a wretched, clichéd thing to do. It’s still not a show that I want to continue watching, but it at least has that going for it.
