21 October 2025: I thought Toujima Tanzaburou wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai would feature more motorcycles
You need to get a better mask.
I know basically nothing about the Kamen Rider franchise beyond what I’ve gleaned from posts by Ivanhobe on the Bluethingy (and previously on the Twitter). However, I’m still enjoying Toujima Tanzaburou wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai (Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider) a fair amount because the connection to the old television series is straightforward enough that even a rudimentary understanding is sufficient. This dude named Toujima wanted to be Kamen Rider when he grew up, and then he did grow up. There is a lot of Shōwa nostalgia in the anime that’s quite palpable even though I don’t personally have any connection with elements the show celebrates.
Yuriko is committed to her bit.
Unsurprisingly, Toujima Tanzaburou wa Kamen Rider ni Naritai has introduced multiple characters who share Tojima’s affinity for Kamen Rider and its sequels. In this respect, it probably would help if I were actually familiar with the original characters that the anime is aping. Sure, Tackle’s introduction came with an explanation, but I assume her appearance meant more to viewers who already recognized her garb. What hasn’t been explained—at least not through the first three episodes—is why motorcycles aren’t a bigger part of the anime. Am I wrong to believe the Rider part of Kamen Rider is nearly as important as that Kamen (mask) part? Maybe the series is saving that for later.
