24 June 2025: Kimi to Idol Precure♪ uses the Minmay Attack as a finisher
Kokoro (left) is Best Girl even though her idol power levels are the strongest.
After 20 episodes, Kimi to Idol Precure♪ (You and Idol Precure♪) feels comfortably familiar as a basically “normal” Pretty Cure series despite the novelty of using all-singing, all-dancing idol moves as finishing attacks. Or at least it seems sort of conventional compared to, say, Hirogaru Sky! Precure, which featured an adult Cure (technically, anyway) and the first male Cure, or Wonderful Precure!, the animal-themed one that featured chases instead of fights. The idol thing in Kimi to Idol Precure♪ is different, but it’s not revolutionary or controversial. It’s…fine. Unfortunately, that also describes the series as a whole for me.
I’m not just saying that because she’s equipped with Gunbuster’s Homing Laser.
There nothing wrong with Kimi to Idol Precure♪, and I enjoy all the individual elements of the show, but I also don’t feel as though there’s anything special about it to set it apart. Still, I can’t be too down on it for not standing out. I mean, consider that Delicious Party♡Precure certainly differentiated itself from other iterations of the franchise, but I sure wish it hadn’t. (It differentiated itself by sucking. I’m saying Delicious Party sucked. Worst Pretty Cure ever.) Honestly, being “just okay” is not a bad place for You and Idol Precure♪ to be right now. It’s still shy of the halfway point. Maybe this is the calm before the idol storm.
