It’s normal to be excited about golf.

You might expect a golf anime to be about golf, but that hasn’t really been the case with Sorairo Utility (written as SORA-IRO UTILITY in all the eyecatches). At least it’s not about golf the way Ooi! Tonbo is about golf. Rather, Sorairo Utility sort of reminds me of Yuru Camp△. Well, maybe like an alternate Yuru Camp△ where Nadeshiko sucked shit at camping, but I do like it.

Well, they’re not helping her out that much.

Then again, I’ve often heard golf (at least played recreationally instead of competitively) is mostly an excuse for friends to spend a few hours yammering together. It’s useful among those who need a reason to hang out because they’re uncomfortable getting together for its own sake. That’s not quite what’s going on here—a couple of older girls are showing a newbie the ropes—but the anime feels more like watching three girls goof off. To that end, I suppose Sorairo Utility really is about golf after all. It’s still not a sport anime, though.
