You are bad at hiding.

The basic premise of Gorilla no Kami kara Kago sareta Reijou wa Ouritsu Kishidan de Kawaigarareru (officially The Gorilla God’s Go-To Girl, but sometimes The Young Lady, Who Was Blessed by the Gorilla God, Is Adored in the Royal Knight Order), i.e., a meek girl suddenly becomes freakishly strong, is an amusing enough gimmick to get me to watch a single episode. However, by also involving gorillas, now my reasons to watch the anime expand to include a gag that I can’t stop trotting out even though it fails every single time. Besides not actually being funny, referencing a new wave song from 1980 is probably too obscure for 2025.

Relax, it’s fine. You’ll look nice.

As for the show itself, eh, it’s all right. I’ve at least managed five episodes of The Gorilla God’s Go-To Girl so far. In comparison, I dropped the previous gorilla-girl anime, Shinka no Mi: Shiranai Uchi ni Kachigumi Jinsei (The Fruit of Evolution: Before I Knew It, My Life Had It Made) after a single episode. I should probably have some complaints about the writing in the instant show, but I think my lack of expectations for it keeps that from happening. For the time being, a freakishly strong meek girl being aghast as she’s constantly breaking things is good enough to keep me watching.

Note 1: My whole life, I thought the line was, “The General only wants to teach birds (i.e., British slang for girls) to dance,” but I guess if it says France on Sting’s website then it’s official.
