Protagonist Rentaro Aijo’s lengthy declaration of love from The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You anime has officially been recognized as the longest monologue in a Japanese-language animation by Guinness World Records.
Rentaro’s record-setting speech, which was delivered by voice actor Wataru Kato, consists of 7,453 Japanese characters.
The monologue was featured in the 24th and final episode of the anime’s second season, which aired on March 30, 2025. In the scene, Rentaro passionately details the specific things he loves about each of his girlfriends.
Guinness World Records officially certified the achievement and a ceremony was held on June 25, 2025, where Kato was presented with the official certificate.
A special event is also scheduled for Oct 18, 2025, to celebrate the record. The event will feature a talk show with the cast and the world’s first screening of the complete, uncut version of the record-holding monologue at its normal speed.
100 Girlfriends is not the only anime to hold a Guinness World record, with series like Sazae San (Longest running series), Anpanman (highest number of characters in an animated franchise), One Piece and even Jujutsu Kaisen have been recognized by the prestigious award.
The anime, The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You, is based on a romantic comedy manga of the same name written by Rikito Nakamura and illustrated by Yukiko Nozawa.
The manga began its serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump magazine in 2020.
The story follows Rentaro Aijo, a high school student who, after his 100th rejection, learns from a god of love that he is destined to have 100 soulmates. However, he is also told that if his soulmates do not find happiness with him, they will die.
The series is animated by Bibury Animation Studios. The second season of the anime aired from Jan 12, 2025, to March 30, 2025.
