Guests seeking to improve mental well-being through movement and mindfulness can now experience a pioneering wellness initiative at the OCÉANO Health Spa Hotel in northern Tenerife.
The OCÉANO Health Spa Hotel has expanded its holistic health concept with the launch of the F. X. Mayr programme “Mental Balance”. Introduced on 16th October 2025, the programme focuses on building inner stability and resilience in response to increasing stress and anxiety in modern life. It combines evidence-based medical techniques with mindfulness practices to create a structured approach to preventive well-being that supports emotional regulation.
“At our seaside retreat and medical centre, we aim to create an environment that restores balance not only to the body, but to the mind as well,” explains the OCÉANO F. X. Mayr Center. “The new ‘Walk & Talk’ coaching sessions encourage self-reflection, support mental balance, and align with the principles of modern F. X. Mayr medicine.”
Movement and mindfulness in nature
A central feature of the programme is the “Walk & Talk” coaching, which blends gentle exercise with guided reflection in nature under professional medical supervision. Inspired by psychotherapy traditions where movement helps open up thought and emotion, this approach at OCÉANO emphasises prevention within modern F. X. Mayr medicine rather than clinical therapy. Studies show that walking therapies can enhance mindfulness, reduce rumination and release endorphins, improving the ability to process feelings and connect with the environment.
Foundations of the Mayr method
The “Mental Balance” programme is rooted in the four principles of F. X. Mayr medicine: rest, cleansing, training and substitution. Developed by Austrian physician Dr Franz Xaver Mayr in the early 20th century, this holistic system views intestinal health as central to vitality, immune strength and mental clarity. Evidence from European clinics shows that these methods can relieve digestive issues associated with anxiety and support long-term emotional stability.
Complementary treatments include yoga, personal training, relaxation massages and thalassotherapy. The thalassotherapy pool features the “Ocean Healing Sound” concept, which uses sound waves to calm the autonomic nervous system and promote deep relaxation. “Walk & Talk” sessions take place two to four times per stay, depending on the programme duration.
Programme components
The “Mental Balance” package includes:
- Initial and final medical examination with laboratory screening to personalise care and monitor detoxification
- Medical abdominal treatments and colon hydrotherapy to enhance digestive and emotional well-being
- Relaxation massages and personal training for physical and mental rejuvenation
- Ocean Healing Sound therapy and seawater hydromassage baths to balance the nervous system and circulation
- Yoga and group relaxation sessions for mindfulness and flexibility
- Heart rate variability (HRV) measurement to assess stress resilience
Programmes are available in 10, 14 or 21-day options, starting from EUR 1,480.00 (around £1,270) excluding accommodation. All are supervised by the F. X. Mayr Center, recognised as one of Europe’s leading institutions in this field.
A holistic seaside retreat
Located in the tranquil coastal setting of Punta del Hidalgo, the OCÉANO Health Spa Hotel integrates modern medicine, naturopathy and restorative therapies. Founded in 1999 by Dr Alfred Milz and Dr K. Matthias Rolle, the F. X. Mayr Center has established an international reputation for prevention, regeneration and detoxification. Beyond Mayr cures, treatments include physiotherapy, shiatsu, osteopathy, Ayurveda and aesthetic cosmetics, all offered in a sustainable environment far removed from mass tourism.
The hotel features modern rooms with ocean-view balconies, a health spa with sauna and thalassotherapy pool, a seawater infinity pool, and lush gardens with panoramic terraces. Its restaurant highlights fresh, locally sourced Canarian ingredients, promoting mindful eating that complements the Mayr principle of conscious chewing for improved digestion and mental clarity.
Promoting resilience through science and nature
With reports showing a 20% rise in anxiety across the UK since the pandemic, initiatives like “Mental Balance” are timely. By integrating evidence-based medicine, mindful movement and the healing power of the sea, OCÉANO’s approach offers guests a chance to strengthen resilience and rediscover inner calm. Bookings for the programme are now open.
