Total Garbage #02 — Patient Swarms of Monsters
July 13th, 2025
No, it’s cool. We can wait.
Non-Impressions:
Of all the rest of the things I tried to watch, I think this takes second place, mostly because there was sort of some action, all the godawful faces and reactions notwithstanding, but the pacing completely shot to hell by the need to internally narrate everything that was happening, and had just happened. “I’ve fallen into this trash pit and there are monsters everywhere. I’ve got to escape because there are monsters and my goal is to get revenge, but I can’t while I’m trapped in this trash pit, so I need to escape it. But first, I need to get away from these monsters.” All this monologued while the monsters just sit there staring in the distance until it’s time to move again. And then, flashbacks. And the promise from the new character to explain everything, but first, a test, and then a second promise to explain everything again. So next week is likely to be a real banger of extra exposition.
As for the other shows, City is still Yelly. The mole thing spent most of its second episode explaining its premise in slightly more depth in the same room as before. I don’t want to talk about that SRPG cheat power thing, but almost wanted to use it for the screenshots just because there’s a bit where both of them are rolling on the ground simultaneously throwing a tantrum which sums up everything about it. The cheat power ugly dude is… still that. And the thing about the arcade girl pissed me off enough in the first four minutes when it once again did the thing where an English person using a common loanword was mystifying. “Cool? What’s cool? Is that anything like kuuru?” Come on. Are we really being serious here? Oh, and now we’re adding his sister to the harem. We are being serious. And hearing Auld Lang Syne transports her back to the fields of Scotland. Scotland. England. Same thing, basically, right? …Yeah. My hopes for this season are fairly solidly dashed at this point.
