The official X account of The Apothecary Diaries anime confirmed that series’ third season and its first theatrical anime film are in production.
The third season will air in two parts, with the first cour premiering in October 2026 and the second in April 2027. The film will open in theaters in December 2026 and will feature a completely new story written by original light novel author Natsu Hyuuga, marking the franchise’s first original anime film project.
The announcement was made alongside a 2nd anniversary commemorative promotional video, which begins with Maomao’s iconic “This is poisoned” scene and revisits major moments from seasons one and two.
A teaser visual was also revealed along with the PV.
Season 3 will adapt the arc in which the story shifts away from the inner palace. The new episodes will follow Maomao and Jinshi as they confront new threats including an impending disaster, a mysterious shrine maiden manipulating the public, and Jinshi’s duties as an imperial prince.
Akinori Fudesaka, who directed season 2, is returning to direct the new season.
The new film will feature direction by Norihiro Naganuma, who handled series composition and direction in season 1 and served as chief director for season 2. Hyuuga is writing the screenplay for the film’s entirely original story, which will not be based on content from the novels or manga.
Season 1 of the anime aired from October 2023 to March 2024, while a second season aired from January to July 2025.
