Toyotaro Unveils New Manga As Dragon Ball Super Remains On Hiatus

Toyotaro, the illustrator of the Dragon Ball Super manga, has released a brand-new one-shot titled Lost Samurai. The 45-page draft of the project has been officially published on the V Jump website.

The new project comes at a time of uncertainty for Dragon Ball Super, which has been on an indefinite hiatus following the death of original creator Akira Toriyama in March 2024.

During a stage conference at Japan Expo on July 3, 2025, Toyotaro addressed the future of the series, stating that it wouldn’t be “impossible” to continue the manga without Toriyama. However, former Dragon Ball editor Kazuhiko Torishima acknowledged that the decision ultimately lies with the rights holders, and not with Toyotaro.

Toyotaro previously confirmed in an interview that he has already drawn and developed material for future arcs of Dragon Ball Super.

Dragon Ball Super manga began its serialization in the August 2015 issue of Shueisha’s monthly V Jump magazine, which was released on June 20, 2015.

The last chapter before the hiatus, Chapter 103, was published in the May 2024 issue of V Jump, which was released on March 20, 2024. This final chapter concluded the “Super Hero” arc, an adaptation of the 2022 film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

A follow-up one-shot featuring Goten and Trunks was later released as Chapter 104 and compiled into the manga’s 24th volume. A full-color edition of that volume was released in Japan on July 4, 2025.
